Agreed the music biz has always been a bit of a cesspool. Funnily enough, though I’ve had my share of disappointments and rejection over the years, what remained important was staying true to my artistry. Being "indie" is nothing new...not to me anyway. Realizing that I had in my possession a great back catalogue of music from a previous incarnation as well as a new venture begun after a bit of a hiatus, it was time once again to take matters into my own hands. How liberating!

My belief is that this is the best time and the worst time to be in this business. It’s the best time as there have never been as many avenues for exposure for an artist. Thank God for the Internet! But at the same time, it’s also the worst time as every dick and his brother can create and upload MP3’s - then call themselves a recording artist – forget about “paying your dues” anymore! All this has done is clog the way for the good stuff trying to rise above the mediocrity. True, mediocrity has always been in the mainstream – I for one never related to the “mainstream” anyway. So let’s forget about that.

Getting back to the positive point for this blog is that the incarnation of 7 Arcos Recordings began June 2004 and began its history (went live) September 1, 2004 - with an impressive 9 releases on its roster! Rare for a start up label. Armed and ready to turn this into a "serious contender" in the industry, as it deserves to be, the opportunity to digitally distribute the entire catalogue world-wide came to fruition. Now music lovers from all walks of life, from all parts of the globe, are appreciating what wasn’t possible just a few short years ago! It’s amazing to experience this from an artist standpoint as well as a label owner. One of the great things that occurred right away was the vintage recordings were re-discovered by collectors out there as far away as Canada, Europe & the UK, who remembered Saint or had heard of them from old bootleg recordings. This was transpiring in the midst of the well received releases from the new incarnation SotoSoundz.

There’s something to be said about timing and intuition – hand in hand, they go well together.
